As part of a firm that has specialized in education facilities for over a half-century, I have had the privilege of being involved in the design of many local K-12 projects.
One of those projects always reminds me of why I love my work. On this project, through design team collaboration, we were able to solve a complex problem that ended up as an elegant solution.
The team worked together to integrate mechanical systems into key architectural elements. This allowed these elements to multi-task as prominent design features while providing premium mechanical service. The equipment could be removed from classrooms, reducing noise and improving the learning environment, achieving reduced cost.
It was satisfying to serve multiple clients with a single solution. I still fond memorioes driving by this project on the corner of 37th and Regal.
I try to treat each customer, client (architect, building owner), team member, manufacturer’s rep, supplier, contractor, building official the way I would want to be treated. Then I look for ways, and coach our team, to serve our customers well.
Outside of work I like to enjoy the great PNW—I am currently enjoying coffee on the porch with my wife, non-aerobic walks in Manito Park, running, hiking, biking, novice climbing, Ferris High School Percussion, and time with family and friends.
